Built, Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection Fund

The Built, Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection Fund was established by NPDC to help private landowners manage, maintain and preserve the heritage values of their properties.

It provides a partial contribution towards the cost of a specific heritage project or work.  

The Built Cultural Heritage Protection Fund can distribute up to $150,000 a year. Grant applications are open, closing on 22 June 2022.

The Natural Heritage Protection Fun can distribute up to $100,000 a year.  Grant applications are open year round.

Applications to the Built Cultural Heritage Protection Fund will open on 20 March 2023.

What items are covered by the funds?

Applications can be made for items identified in the schedules of the District Plan, including:

  • heritage buildings and items
  • significant natural areas
  • archaeological sites
  • sites and areas of significance to Māori.
