The section of Mangorei Road between Northgate and Warangi Street is a busy one for road users, especially at either end of the school day. NPDC wants to make this area safer for everyone – people who walk, cycle and drive.

After consultation with nearby residents and New Plymouth Girls’ High School, we have an updated proposed design for the public to give their comments on. The design features:

A raised, signalised crossing.
An off-road cycle lane from the gates of NPGHS to Northgate.
Widened cycle lanes (designed to best-practice).
Inset parking where possible
A right-turn bay into Rimu Street.

In addition, we plan a 12-month trial of narrowing Rimu Street at its intersection with Mangorei Road to review any safety benefits. This will improve safety for people walking along and cycling up Mangorei Road.
