An experienced local guide takes you through the central city area relating events, developments and anecdotes from the early European settlers’ arrival in New Plymouth in 1841, through to the time that a viable community was established some 40 or 50 years later. A fascinating way to learn about the city’s history for visitors and locals alike!

There are two walk routes to choose from - the Taranaki Cathedral/Marsland Hill walk and the Devonport/Central City walk - both are around 2km long and take about two hours to complete at a gentle strolling pace.

There are moderate inclines in both walks.
