Climate change has altered the way we think about our future. We’re committed to an urgent climate response and building a sustainable district.
Our Climate Action Framework looks at how to reduce our emissions by changing the way we do things, like introducing electric vehicles or LED streetlights, as well as how we adapt to the effects of climate change such as preparing for rising sea levels and coastal erosion.
We’re working to embed climate change into our operations and plans, and are planning community engagement to find out how we can better support the district to become a Sustainable Lifestyle Capital.
We’ve drafted a district-wide Emissions Reduction Plan that aims for a greener, cleaner future for our kids, but are we on the right track? Feedback on our 10-Year Plan in 2021 showed that 60% of residents either supported our climate action work or wanted us to do more. Tell us what you want to know and what you think below
Have Your SayWe're working on embedding climate change into our plans and operations, as well as planning for community engagement in 2022 to create a district-wide emissions reduction and adaptation plan.
Part of our work around climate change is trialing the use of electric vehicles in our fleet. The trial of two electric vehicles will find out of they are fit for our needs.
We will help offset our emissions by planting 34 hectares of NPDC-owned land with native plants to improve biodiversity, meet carbon sequestration targets and create thriving natural environments for future generations.

Introducing LED streetlights, reducing carbon emissions by 6,000 tonnes and saving more than $6.5 million in electricity over the next 20 years.
Making a number of internal changes such as, improving the Wastewater Treatment Plant and wastewater pump stations to significantly reduce electricity and natural gas use.
Our region is at the forefront of climate change adaptation and sustainability, and we are looking at our impact on the planet and making changes to our organisation.
