Restoring the Huatoki

The Landing

The Landing has a lot of potential as a primary event space. It has the potential to evolve into a recognised premium outdoor event space that caters for a range and scale of events from small gatherings to civic functions. To get the most out of the space it should:

  • Be equipped with event infrastructure including power and water.
  • Have flat areas that enable easy or minimal staging setup including on the interface with Ariki Street.
  • Have a larger stage area next to the Huatoki to take advantage of the natural slope as amphitheatre.
  • Be safely connected to the Coastal Walkway, Lower Brougham Street and Huatoki Plaza with Ariki Street as a shared space that can be closed off for larger events.

To ensure that the space is used for events and other civic and recreation activity the following key sub-initiatives are recommended.
