I'm married with Adult Children. I'm Taranaki born, Taranaki proud and really care about our city. I have been a volunteer on the Board of Trustees for the YMCA for 4 years, because of my passion for people in our community.
My wife and I have owned and worked in local New Plymouth businesses for the past 22 years. Over the last 2 years we have experienced the biggest challenges we have ever faced in business.
I'm totally opposed against 3 waters and the installation of water meters in our city as I see this as another form of Control. This will also make life more unaffordable for many ratepayers who already find themselves struggling to already make ends meet. Infrastructure is also a major priority which must be addressed.
It is time to listen to the people (we the people). I am that voice for the people.
No. We need to re-look at the 10 year plan and come up with solutions that will reduce the cost of rates substantially. Our community is in pain and we need to be mindful of that and alleviate the pressure of ever-increasing costs.
No. I strongly oppose the three waters. Our community will no benefit from this and I do not support water meters. I will be bringing evidence forward to prove this is simply a money-grabbing exercise.
No. The way to address climate change is by recycling and disposing of our rubbish in a better way. I do have a plan for the future to make this work.
Yes. We need to find ways to support local businesses in our community. We need to encourage people to shop local and make things more user-friendly. We need to listen to our rural communities, who play a vital part in the economy of our towns and cities.
Yes. I am all about inclusiveness. As a community, we all need to get along and work together. We are all one and must come together as one to create and maintain a better future for all of us.
We need to find out what more we can do to support our outlying areas of New Plymouth. We need to look at ways that will bring people into these areas, rather than being solely focused on the main CBD in New Plymouth. Sporting facilities and events can be shifted to some of these areas to create revenue for them. We also need to look at basic needs (e.g. roading, refused removal, water, etc) in these areas as well.
I do not agree with this plan. At this time, we are not in a financial position to spend money on such a facility, when our more basic needs (water infrastructure, roading etc) are far more important right now. We have enough sporting facilities at the moment to accommodate all we need.
Infrastructure is a top priority! Water, roading, and refuse removal are important right now. We have had significant growth in housing developments and our infrastructure has not kept up with progress. We need to upgrade underground piping systems that are no longer fit for purpose. I also want to look at ways to reduce our rates.
