Māori ward poll 2015

In 2014 New Plymouth District Council decided to create a Māori Ward. A petition was received from more than 5% of electors requesting a binding poll be carried out under the Local Electorate Act 2001. The poll was held in 2015, and the resulting verdict was that a Māori Ward should not be established in New Plymouth District. The outcome of the poll is binding until after the 2019 New Plymouth District Council election.
